In the opening scene, Marion Crane is wearing a white bra because Alfred Hitchcock wanted to show her as being “angelic”. After she has taken the money, the following scene has her in a black bra because now she has done something wrong and evil. Similarly, before she steals the money, she has a white purse; after she’s stolen the money, her purse is black.

““In the election of 1808, Republicans in New York attacked Federalists with a campaign song that included the verse, ‘Federalists with blacks united.’ Black voters, meanwhile, endorsed Federalists and attacked Jefferson’s embargo, which probably hurt free blacks in the North harder than any other single group because so many of the men in that community were either sailors or involved in shipbuilding, repairs, and sail making. Before the War of 1812, the ‘Federalists defended black voting rights and foiled several attempts’ by the Jeffersonians ‘to institute racial restrictions.’ When Republicans gained control of the New York legislature in 1811, they attempted to restrict black voters by requiring them to show proof of their status as freemen. Federalists who controlled the Council of Revision defeated this ‘humiliating’ and ‘wanton insult…on account of their complexion.’ Not surprisingly, free blacks in New York continued to vote for Federalists, who, throughout the North, stood for emancipation and black rights.””

I had not realized that free blacks supported Federalists…in fact, I hadn’t really taken their ability to vote into account. I guess I just assumed that in most places it would be illegal.

I’m actually pretty impressed by the Federalists on this count. Kudos!

Proving once again that while he may be a wise guy, Flash is undoubtedly one of the biggest hearts of the DC universe. Everyone likes to point out how Superman could kill people and doesn’t… or how Batman could just spend his days as Bruce Wayne, living off his millions… but I never see anything about Flash. It takes a lot to be the fastest man alive. He’s living at a pace we’ll never understand. Hours are days and days are weeks, time is literally standing still for him on a regular basis. He can physically do more good in an hour than another hero could in a day, and he definitely does when he can.

The Flash is one of my favorite characters because his story is actually so sad and his life, his power, is almost a curse- and yet he still finds the strength to crack jokes at every turn.

This seriously pisses me off because TWO men of the “correct” ethnicity/race were asked to play the role of Khan. I don’t remember their names because this back when Into Darkness was in casting yo but they BOTH DECLINED.

So there’s a HUGE difference between “well, we asked the best in the business and they both said no, so we should go with another actor of the ‘incorrect’ race who is also very well suited for the role” and doing what the Hunger Games did which is literally only let white girls audition for Katniss.

When actors decline there is fuckall you can do. It’s shitty, no doubt, that Khan ended up being white, but BC did a great job in the role, while knowing he was third choice. I won’t begrudge him for taking it, and I won’t begrudge the casting crew for going with him after their best actors declined.
